Prehospital ultrasound
is an innovation in prehospital care.
In the case of
servere hemorrhage of parenchymal organ of the abdomen, fast
diagnosis and immediate laparatomy is the best chance for
survival. In case of blunt abdominal trauma, no major signs due
to physical examination provide relevant information to make a
decision for the need of surgical treatment. Therefore during
the prehospital period on scene crucial time lost might occure
in cases of intraabdominal bleeding prior to performing urgent
laparotomy.
With the development
and introduction of portable ultrasound devices, we demonstrated
that prehospital focused abdominal sonography for trauma
(P-FAST) can significantly improve prehospital care and
management of injured patients. |
